Strange graphics bug
Hey guys, new to the forums and the game, but I gotta say I'm loving the helpful community.
I've scoured the graphics issues everyone's been having, but none of them seem to resemble what's going on on my computer. I recently upgraded my video card from integrated to an ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO. Then I switched from my small flat screen monitor to a larger one to support a higher resolution.
So I got it running, and I install all the software and drivers for it, but when I go to play, the game suddenly fails to render the majority of the graphics, like so:
Granted, it runs 10 times smoother than my integrated, but what good is it when I can't even see what's going on?
Even on my integrated video card, this was never an issue. I installed DirectX 10 to see if this would solve the problem, but it hasn't. Neither has tracking down updated drivers, reinstalling Guild Wars, or fooling around with the resolution.
I'm using Windows XP SP1 right now. Any help or guidance would be really appreciated.

Take off DX10 and install the DX9 drivers.
Windows XP does not suport DX10.
It looks like GW does not suport the drivers you have installed corectly.
Have you tried 3rd party drivers, or only the official ATI drivers?

I'll go ahead and remove DirectX 10 then
I've only tried the drivers included with the software, which were the most recent ones for that card. What 3rd party drivers would you recommend?

Im not at home right now, so I dont have any site for forceware drivers. I think Omega have a few good ones for ATI (not sure if tehy are compatible with GW though)
This is the page for teh newest drivers directly form ATI

Well ATi has very long history with malfunctioning graphics (at least with me).
Like the guys suggested, remove dx10, instal 9.0c, i might also suggest servise pack 2 for xp.
Omega drivers are not necessery, but it'll make things go way smother than regular ones.
if that doesn't fix it, you have yet another one of ATi's broken video cards (i changed 3 of them before i switched to nVidia)
And omegas ARE compatible with just about everything

I've downloaded those drivers already, I've got the most recent ones. I guess I have compatibility problems. Does anyone know a way around that?
Man, I hope this video card works somehow.
I'll try those Omega drivers later this afternoon. If they don't work, I hope I can exchange this card, or return it, or something. I just got it yesterday. :/
Thanks for the help guys!

Is it only a problem that occurs with Guild Wars? Or does it affect every game/graphically-intensive app.?

I can't see why you wouldn't have SP2 for windows XP, is there any reason why you have SP1? It's extremely out of date.
Maybe try some older drivers from ATI for that card, and also make sure that your other integrated graphics is disabled, if it's not then it can cause conflicts.

Windows update won't even support a system with anything less than SP2. Get SP3 in there - I believe service packs are cumulative - you may find it sorts out any number of little issues that have been nagging you.

I just wiped it recently, and I think the CD key I used doesn't let me upgrade. I'm gonna figure my way around that though, that's another set of problems.
I was told that my computer wasn't capable of cooling the card well enough, and this old computer doesn't have a viable slot for a better cooling fan. It seemed like blowing a fan into the inside of my computer improved the way the game looked, if that even makes sense. I returned the card though; I'll be using a less intense graphics card to see if it's any better.
Thanks for the help guys!
